Why Business Partners Can Make All the Difference

Greetings Fellow Internet Marketers,

A couple of years ago I successfully completed John’s Marketing Masterclass and became a product vendor in my own right. Understandably I was excited & very pleased with myself at having my first product for sale over at Clickbank, so I merrily went about my business with John’s last words to me ringing in my ears…’go ahead and rinse and repeat’… John was talking about everything I’d learned over the previous 36-weeks.

So off I went and did just that. I set about creating more products and I now have several products for sale online. Happy Dances all round, or so I thought, but something was missing – and at first I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

As we all know Internet Marketing is one of those things that not everyone gets…and maybe your spouse gets a little fed up with you being at your laptop working away on all those ‘get rich quick schemes’…sound familiar? So when the successes come along who can you ‘really’ celebrate with?

After a while it dawned on me that I needed to work as part of a Team, to share the workload, share the profits and share the successes! And at first thoughts you may think to yourself that you can do all the work and prefer to keep all the profits to yourself. But let me ask you, would you rather have 100% of a little pot of money or a smaller percentage of a much bigger pot of money?…easy answer, right!

I spend a lot of my time working online in the Golf Niche and having looked around at all the products that are available I knew I needed to create something really special to have a chance of tapping into the hungry buyers that are in the golf market. I figured the best way to do this would be to get a golf expert on board, so I did some research and approached Richard Lawless, a PGA Professional Golf Coach, I explained to him what Internet Marketing was all about and how I was going to make him very wealthy.

He came on board, we set up a Website called Weekend Golfers and then created our first video coaching product called Drive For Show. (www.driveforshow.info)

So we now have a quality product…but as we all know sales don’t just happen.

Next team member on my list was an expert at Affiliate Marketing, or rather an expert at ‘Marketing to Affiliates’ someone who knows how to set up all the affiliate resources and make our proposition so attractive that the Super Affiliates would come looking. Enter Gary Caine. Gary is now the Affiliate Manager at Weekend Golfers.

Gary’s prime goal is to get more Team Members on board in the shape of Affiliates. These are perhaps the most important team members you can have…and the one’s that can really boost your online business. By making as many affiliate resources available as possible, the aim is to make the Affiliate’s job as easy as possible to sell our product for us. Helping them make more sales which in turn will obviously make us more sales.

During this team building process I have learned a great deal about sharing tasks and letting people with better skills do the jobs where I was lacking. The end result is a much better product and a team of people sharing a common goal. Since I made this decision I haven’t looked back and my online efforts have gone from ‘ok’ to me being very excited about the future.

    Hi Steve,

    Thanks for the post and congrats on your success.

    On a personal note I would wholeheartedly agree with you. I had tried IM in the past on an almost solitary basis and it makes things a lot more difficult if you need to do all the work and the learning yourself.

    But second time round I now have a mastermind group of individuals with different skills but similar goals and you can then share the successes and failures with them alleviating the loneliness and solitude of traditional IM.

    Plus you can’t have all the skills yourself so doing what you have done is absolutely the correct strategy.

    Hi Steve, its amazing who you bump into trawling the internet LOL, another quality post and some bang on points here. Its all about working with others towards a common goal. I know well how hard you have worked for this and the success that you deserve. The affilates site is top notch as is all your stuff, well done, just keep on going!

    And so very true!!! – I know from personal experience that I get so much more done when I’m working as part of a team or partnership!

    A prime example for me is http://www.WizardResponderPro.com – Without Pete doing the techy side of things, I would never, could never, run the service as well as it is!
    And likewise, Pete would be happy to say that without me pushing him and the marketing side of it, we would have a great service with zero clients.

    So that shows a great example of teaming up where different skills sets are required and we each provide what we’re good at.

    ALSO – by having others relying on our efforts too – I find it helps to ensure we get more done. As I’m rubbish at making myself work – but hate to let other people down!

    I’ve also noticed a good few partnerships and teams forming from the people who have taken John’s Masterclass. And those have produced some excellent results in both products and activities that have benefited all involved :)
    (The recent 100 blog challenge was a fantastic example of teaming up with no product or site to speak of… yet a great benefit to all who participated :)

    Hello Steve,
    I totally agree with you on that. I have been doing this for 2 yrs now and in the beginning I tried to do it all myself only to find out that I was not good at some very important things.
    After finding others to share the responsibilities my websites are much much better and receive much better traffic.
    Great post and I hope others take heed to it. It will help them get further more quickly for sure!

    Thanks for sharing the whole process of your niche business set up with us.

    I personally noticed that I get a lot more down when I work with someone else, it seems that I am quite happy to let myself down when I don’t meet deadlines, but letting someone else down is another story.

    I am currently part of a mastermind group, bouncing ideas off each other, sharing experiences, and just basically pushing each other forward.

    You need the help and support of others online, no one should try and go it alone.

    I am not quite at the stage of setting up a Team yet, but when I am I will remember the points you raised in the post.

    Good luck with the golfing niche, hope you hit the competition for six!

    Great writing Steve, and nice to meet you.

    You hit the nail on the head about working away on “get rich quick schemes”, as others sometimes see it that way. Then when some money comes in, thre’s nobody that you want to party with! :-) The social aspect of having some friends on my side is very appealing, and I bet I’d make more money.

    Do you know of a good way to find other like-minded individuals or groups?

    Excellent guest post mate:-)so many good reasons to form an alliance.
    The 100 post challenge was a good example of what can be achieved by people working towards a common goal.
    IM can be such a lonely career full of so many distractions..but as you said when others depend on you things change.

    I totally agree with you and as being a starter at the John Thornhill Marketing Masterclass I understand the value of the knowledge and experience I am gaining from him as well as all his students and their work in the field. IM is a tricky field and very agressive if you dont know what you are doing. It is best to build a team and let the experts do what experts know.
